To manage the annual influx of people from various parts of the country, the police in the Oshana Region have intensified their patrol and visibility across the region, which will continue until the 18th of January.
The Oshana Region has already started witnessing a high influx of visitors as well as the return home of those who work in other parts of the country.
"We aim to reduce fatalities, minimise injuries, and protect both public and private property. We will reinforce the Oshiko road traffic checkpoint with additional manpower from various stations within the Oshana Nampol and the other key stakeholders to achieve this goal. Additionally, we will erect temporary roadblocks on key routes throughout the region to conduct general vehicle inspections at checkpoints to ensure vehicles are roadworthy and safe for travel and that the drivers are not driving under the influence of alcohol."
Commissioner Naftal Sakaria further urged road users to adhere to the traffic regulations to avert accidents as well as prevent fatalities.
He added that police officers should ensure that citizens are educated on regulations as they enforce the law.
