As the Kavango East Region braces for the festive season, the regional leadership is calling for collaboration with law enforcement to maintain peace and safety in the region.
This was the message shared during the launch of the festive season Road Safety Operation at the Masivi roadblock.
While the festive season is marked as a time for celebration, the period has equally become known as a time when criminal activity appears to peak.
The primary objective of the festive season operation is to protect lives, safeguard property, and reduce traffic accidents and related violence.
The collective responsibility to ensure an orderly society was stressed, and parents especially were urged to ensure they play a positive role in shaping their children's behaviour.
National statistics for the 2023/2024 period indicate accident figures of 4,047 crashes, of which 837 people sustained injuries with 59 fatalities.
Three thousand accidents and 44 fatalities were recorded from the 1st of January this year until the 3rd of November.
Speaking on behalf of the Police Inspector General, Kavango East Commander Commissioner Andreas Haingura sent a caution to motorists.
The operation, which started on 15 November, will run until 19 January next year.
