President Nangolo Mbumba says the work of former US President, Jimmy Carter left a permanent footprint in the annals of history.
Carter who served as the 39th President of the USA, died on Sunday, aged 100. He served from 1977 to 1981.
President Mbumba in a statement said humanity has lost a champion for democracy and rights of the oppressed people of the world.
"As a people who were occupied by the racist Apartheid Regime of South Africa, President Carter will be remembered for his commitment to human rights and the civil rights movement in the United States of America, which led to the adoption of progressive US policies in favour of independence across the globe. In that vein, the Namibian people will not only recall the exceptional humanitarian work of former President Carter in Africa and elsewhere, but will also recall his foreign policy which supported the right of Africa and the Namibian people to self-determination" Mbumba said.
The Namibian leader extended condolences to the Carter family and the people of the USA.
