As the residents of Keetmanshoop are preparing to bid 2024 farewell with fireworks, animal lovers and the Keetmanshoop Municipality are concerned about the crackers' effects on animals.

Speaking to the nbc News team, acting Chief Executive Officer Apollus Motinga issued a strong warning against the use of fireworks.

Motinga cautioned residents that Keetmanshoop Municipality does not allow the use of fireworks in any circumstance in the absence of a qualified person in explosives.
