About 2,000 Usab residents in Karibib own land

Close to 2,000 residents at Karibib have become plot owners at the Usab Informal Settlement after the town council handed over their land ownership certificates.

In 1996, the Namibia Action Housing Group and Shack Dwellers Federation signed an agreement with the Karibib Town Council to improve the Usab Informal Settlement.

During phase 1, community members raised money to survey the land and relocate people for the creation of streets.

The second phase, which is the installation of services, was provided by a local company, Tweya, at no cost.

||Kharas residents call for realignment of constituency boundaries

Residents of ||Kharas Region have recommended that the Fifth Boundary Delimitation and Demarcation Commission realign some constituency boundaries to enhance service delivery. 

They made the proposals during the Commission's public consultations at Keetmanshoop. 

The constituency boundary changes were proposed for the Keetmanshoop Rural, Berseba, Keetmanshoop Urban, and !Nami#Nus Constituencies. 

Maputa village residents in need of national documents

The Secretary General of the Swapo Party, Sophia Shaningwa, is calling for the distribution of national documents to the inhabitants of Maputa village in Bwabwata, Mukwe constituencies, Kavango East Region. 

This was said at a party's mini-rally held in Maputa village on Saturday.

When their village was declared a war zone before independence, the community of Maputa fled to neighbouring countries for refuge and only returned after independence. 

This, they say, has been a challenge that has resulted in them not getting national documents. 

Dolam residents dismayed over short lived debt relief programme

Residents of Dolam are disappointed with the City of Windhoek's debt relief programme, which concluded yesterday. 

The initiative, which aimed to write off debts amounting to N$524 million, has left community members feeling abandoned and without recourse.

Dolam resident Johanna Ananus shared her disappointment with the programme, recalling her excitement when the programme was first announced. 

However, she found the process too complicated and failed to collect the necessary documentation in time to apply. 

Dust over demands to remove Chief Seibeb refuses to settle

Community members locked the gates of the Daure Daman Traditional Authority office at Uis because Chief Zacharias Seibeb has allegedly not responded to their petition handed over last year.

The community members are also not happy with the Minister of Urban and Rural Development, Erastus Uutoni, whom they say has not responded to the petition that demands the removal of the chief.

The disgruntled community members marched in the streets of Uis to shut down the Daure Daman Traditional office.

Rundu residents call on the council to address water crisis

Residents of Rundu are calling on the council to address the water crisis in the town. 

They made the call during the presentation of the 2024–2025 draft budget and tariffs.

Some of the residents who have taps said there has not been running water, while others say they have no water at all. 

This has pushed the residents, such as those of the Sun City location, who resorted to breaking water pipes to fetch water.

The Rundu Town Council Engineer, Sakaria Shopati, says the council has come up with plans to mitigate the issue.

Zambezi residents want original boundary restored

The four traditional authorities in the Zambezi Region and the Regional Council have submitted their final recommendations and proposals for the constituency administrative boundaries and regional boundaries. 

The Mafwe, Mashi, Masubia, and Mayeyi traditional authorities and the Zambezi Regional Council made submissions calling for the Commission to recommend that the boundary for Zambezi be restored. 

Katima Mulilo residents warned against illegal activities

Residents in Katima Mulilo have been warned against illegal sewer and water connections, as well as unapproved building construction.

Katima Mulilo Town Council Mayor John Ntemwa issued the warning after a pipe was damaged during the construction of an unapproved building at a plot in Greenwell Matongo suburb. The incident left the entire town without running water for several hours.

Ida Jimmy !Ha-Eiros remembered as a fearless and selfless fighter

Residents of Luderitz remembered late Swapo Party liberation struggle stalwart Ida Jimmy !Ha-Eiros as a fearless and selfless fighter for Namibia's independence at a memorial service held in the town.

Jimmy-!Ha-Eiros died on April 3 at the age of 79.

Delivering tributes at the memorial service, fellow party members reflected on their journey with Jimmy-!Ha-Eiros during the anti-apartheid struggle era.

Honouring and celebrating her life, mourners sang liberation songs in her memory.

Mafuta residents in Katima Mulilo affected by low water pressure

Some residents of Mafuta compound, east of Choto, in Katima Mulilo Rural have been affected by low water pressure.

However, NamWater officials and technicians are addressing the matter.
Water to the Mafuta compound is supplied via a NamWater reservoir, but according to residents, consistent low water pressure is a major headache. 

Richards Kangumu, a member of the Village Development Committee in the area, said the matter had been worsened by an increase in population in the area.
