The Namibian Agronomic Board (NAB) has reminded commercial and surplus producers to apply for the grain seeds and fertilisers subsidy for the 2024/2025 planting season.

The subsidy programme ends on February 15.

NAB launched the National Drought Support to assist grain farmers in recovering from the 2023/2024 drought, given the good rainy season forecasted for the 2024/2025 season.

This programme provides a subsidy through a refund claim system for seeds of white maize and pearl millet, as well as fertilisers for rainfed production.

It strictly targets commercial and surplus farmers who planted and marketed maize or mahangu grain to millers since 2021.

The subsidy will be proportionally shared amongst all six grain production zones of Namibia but on a first-come, first-come, first-served basis.

This is a 10% subsidy on white maize seeds and fertilisers, calculated based on the total invoice amount from the agri-input suppliers approved by the Namibian Agronomic Board.

The subsidy is limited to a minimum of five and 50 hectare per farmer for rainfed production.
