The Swapo Party is demanding a security for costs in the amount of N$600,000, while President Nangolo Mbumba is requesting N$500,000 and the Electoral Commission of Namibia N$750,000 in the ongoing legal battle where the Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) seeks to nullify the 2024 National Assembly election results.

The respondents want the security costs to be paid within 24 hours after the Court has made its ruling.

During proceedings in the Electoral Court, IPC's legal representatives argued that no security for costs should be imposed on their client. The IPC lawyer suggested that if the court ruled otherwise, the amount should be capped at N$100,000.

Advocate Anton Katz stated that at the end of the trial, his client (IPC) will not have a costs order against them and that there is no reason for them to pay a security cost.

The IPC had initially offered N$25,000 as security, and Katz informed the Court that the respondents' replies are not serious and without merit.

Meanwhile, Landless People’s Movement (LPM) lawyer Patrick Kauta argued that his client’s liability should be limited to the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) and not extend to Swapo or the President. He proposed that if the court is inclined to impose a security deposit, it should be set at N$50,000.

The Court has taken a brief adjournment until 11:30.
