With the high unemployment rate faced in the country, the Ratepayers Association expressed concern over the issue of vendors around the city being moved or chased away from their preferred selling spots.
The Ratepayers Association is against the alleged mistreatment of vendors and those who are self-employed by removing opportunities such as being car guards around the city.
This comes after some vendors last year were forced to move their businesses from the places that are occupied by mainstream retailers and those who rent space from the city.
Benestus Kandundu, a Ratepayers Association member, expressed concern that entrepreneurs or those trying to sell their products are not allowed to sell in some city facilities.
He said if this continues, many will be pushed into unemployment and increase crime and poverty.
They further questioned the City of Windhoek as to why the parking meters were implemented in and around the city alone.
Those who used to survive by being car guards have lost the opportunity in the CBD since the City of Windhoek gave the contract to Kayplot Investment.
The association claims that they have been approaching the Windhoek municipality wanting answers as to why the practice is only in and around the city, and questioned how the parking tender was awarded to Kayplot Investment.
They further questioned the city on what methods were used to determine the various parking rates around the city.
Approached for a comment the City of Windhoek's spokesperson, Lydia Amuntenya, said that the City can not comment as the matter is currently before the court.
