The Namibian Broadcasting Corporation has made progress in expanding its broadcasting network and upgrading systems over the past six months.

The Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Emma Theofelus, gave an update on the developments during a staff address.

nbc was allocated N$8 million to expand its broadcasting network and upgrade its systems.

The corporation has undertaken several initiatives to enhance the quality of its broadcasting services through investments into infrastructure improvements.

"The recent acquisitions and upgrades are part of nbc's ongoing efforts to improve its broadcasting infrastructure, provide better services to the public, and fulfil its mandate of connecting and informing the nation effectively."

The corporation also upgraded some of its studios to high definition in an effort to improve the viewing experience and align the broadcaster with global broadcasting standards.

Construction of a broadcasting tower at Impalila Island allows that community, which has historically lacked access to broadcasting services, to benefit with enhanced connectivity.

"nbc has acquired advanced equipment for digitising its audio-visual materials, preserving its archival content for future use and reference. This transition to a file-based digital system is essential for long-term storage and accessibility. nbc has acquired new radio studio mixers for its headquarters in Windhoek. During the 2024/25 financial year, the Rundu, Oshakati, and Katima Mulilo regional studios will receive new mixers in a phased rollout to enhance their broadcasting capacity."

Additionally, the nbc recently received an exemption from the Ministry of Finance and Public Enterprises, which relief will enable the broadcaster to achieve 100 percent connectivity for all Namibians through cost-effective broadcasting solutions.
