With the recent surge in reports of customers being targeted by fraudsters who steal their hard-earned money, FNB Namibia has expressed concern over the increasing fraudulent tactics aimed at their clients.
Nangula Kauluma, the Chief Executive Officer of FNB Namibia Retail, emphasized that many clients become victims of fraudsters who sell them false dreams in order to obtain their card details. She advises clients to always verify with the bank if they receive anonymous calls requesting transactions.
Fraud has emerged as a serious and growing threat, particularly in the banking sector. In a press conference held in the capital, FNB Namibia highlighted that recent fraud incidents did not involve any internal staff, as noted by Kauluma.
Social engineering is one of the most common scamming methods employed by fraudsters. Other tactics include web application attacks, cybersecurity breaches, and card swapping, all of which criminals use to access bank accounts and perpetrate scams.
Kauluma also urged customers to take action against fraud by reporting any suspicious calls requesting personal or banking information. She stressed that no FNB staff member will ever require or ask for your OTP, card number, PIN, username, or passwords.
