Governor Aletha Frederick of the Kharas Region has urged for renewed efforts to address gender inequality and poverty.

She made this call during the annual New Year opening meeting for the Ministry of Gender Equality, Poverty Eradication, and Social Welfare staff, held in Keetmanshoop.

The gathering reaffirmed commitments to tackle the pressing issues of inequality and poverty in the coming year.

"This ministry holds the key of hope for the most vulnerable and destitute in our communities. The work you do is vital, not only for advancing gender equality but also for the overall social welfare of our region. Your dedication to programs like social grants, the economic empowerment initiative for women, and community development projects has significantly impacted countless lives. We thank you for your commitment. These initiatives have empowered individuals and families, fostering resilience and promoting sustainable development within our communities," stated Governor Frederick.

Trives Shuudifonya, Deputy Director of the Ministry of Gender Equality, Poverty Eradication, and Social Welfare, emphasized that 2025 will be a year of hard work, teamwork, and commitment.

"Colleagues and staff, let's strive to achieve more with fewer resources. Let’s work diligently to the best of our abilities, and we will reap the rewards!" she encouraged.

The staff also bid farewell to Chris Krohne, who resigned to become a Member of Parliament following last year’s national elections.

"Although I am moving on to a new chapter in my journey, I will continue to serve this nation with the same dedication and integrity. I remain the same person you have known, and I will always carry with me the spirit of teamwork and service that this ministry embodies. Thank you for the memories, camaraderie, and our shared mission. May you all continue to excel in your roles. May God bless you and guide you in your efforts to improve the lives of our people. This is not goodbye, but rather a heartfelt farewell."
