Following a recent outbreak of lumpy skin disease in the Otjombinde Constituency, the State Veterinary Office has launched a two-week vaccination campaign that started last week.
Dr. Seuakouje Veii from the Epukiro Veterinary District, which includes Otjombinde, informed Nampa that the district has received 20,000 doses of vaccine to control the disease in the 60 villages of the constituency.
Veii urged farmers in the area to cooperate with the officials.
Farmers must accurately report the number of animals so that the officials can bring the correct number of doses.
Veii also called for farmers' collaboration in sharing pans and other necessities that may be required by the team.
Farmers are required to bring their blue files to record this important vaccination.
The team's target is to visit two villages per day.
Lumpy skin disease is a vector-borne infectious disease that can occasionally be fatal for cattle, particularly when characterized by nodules on their skin.
It is primarily transmitted through insect bites.
