Young entrepreneur contributes to food sustainability

A young entrepreneur from Okaruikombungu Village in the Otjombinde Constituency, Kahitee Keeja, is determined to keep the garden project she runs going despite the limited resources at her disposal.

Food sustainability and job creation are key reasons for this determination, she tells nbc News during a visit to her two-hectare garden project in Omaheke Region.

Green-fingered Kahitee Keeja says that the garden was started last year with onion and potato planting, but unfavourable weather patterns affected most of the potato produce, with onions fairing a bit better.

Farmers urged to move away from traditional way of handling animal medicine

A local Veterinarian in the Omaheke Region, Dr Punaa Kazapua has encouraged farmers to move away from the traditional way of handling animal medicine as this makes them less effective.

Dr Kazapua says that animal drugs are expensive and if the cold chain is not properly followed from retailers to livestock, it results in farmers spending more as the livestock health will not improve. 

Speaking at a farmer's information session at Tallismanus in the Otjombinde Constituency, Dr Kazapua says farmers should arm themselves with the correct handling of animal medication. 

Farming communities at Omipanda village receives water tanks and pipes

Farming communities at Omipanda village in the Otjombinde Constituency have received a helping hand from the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Land Reform for the water woes. 

The ministry has provided them with water tanks and pipes and further intends to drill another borehole to remedy the situation.

At present, the community has been sourcing water from a distant village. 

Village Headman at Omipanda, Kavenambangu Kotjipati said his village has more than 500 head of cattle.
