Residents along Independence Avenue in Windhoek's Katutura residential area have raised concerns over continuous water wastage, as city sprinklers have been left running for nearly two weeks.

Edna Muariani, a resident in the area, told nbc News that a city official turned on the sprinklers last Monday, and they have been running ever since. “I don’t know if the taps are broken or what the problem is, but the water has been flowing for almost two weeks now,” she said.

When contacted by nbc News, Francina Kahungu, the Chairperson of Basic Provisional Services at the City of Windhoek, arrived at the scene to assess the situation.

She acknowledged the issue and confirmed that she had alerted the relevant department to address it.

Kahungu said that water conservation remains a priority for Windhoek, especially given the city's history of water shortages.

She assured residents that the matter would be resolved promptly.
