Residents at Terrace Bay remember the late Founding President Dr. Sam Nujoma as a leader who brought immense change to their community.

Ranging from education, communication, health, and leisure, the residents say Terrace Bay would not be the same without Dr. Nujoma's support.

Terrace Bay, on the Skeleton Coast, is a tiny resort, 360 kilometres from Swakopmund.

Everyone here knows the late Dr. Sam Nujoma's name. It is associated with positive affirmations.

Dr. Nujoma first went to Terrace Bay in 1991, and thereafter, his visits were on an annual basis.

The late Dr. Nujoma's solid belief in education as an equaliser pushed him to fund the construction of a primary school.

The school is named after him, and it accommodates learners from pre-primary until Grade 2.

Dr. Nujoma saw the need to build a clinic and police station as well and provided the funds for the two projects.

He is further credited for taking the national broadcasters' signal and Mobile Telecommunications Company network to Terrace Bay.

Among the most memorable moments for the residents was when Dr. Nujoma brought his comrade and former Zimbabwe President, the late Dr. Robert Mugabe, for a fishing expedition.

Whenever Dr. Nujoma visited, he slept in this house, which was eventually named after him.

The house perched above the Atlantic Ocean was also the spot where he threw annual Christmas gatherings to appreciate all residents and visitors.
