SIM card holders whose numbers have been deactivated after registration are seeking answers from MTC in Katima Mulilo.

They claim that their numbers were registered, only to find that their cards seem to have been blocked.

A long queue of both senior citizens and young people was observed in the morning, with many frustrated about their SIM cards not working. 

The majority stated that they had registered with MTC agents who visited their villages last year and did not understand the current disconnection.

Connect Africa, a mobile and web application designed to empower individuals with disabilities, has been well received.

The app was launched two years ago and, so far, has more than 150 subscribers.

In an interview with nbc News, Connect Africa Founder Timoteus Nangombe says the app empowers visually and hearing-impaired people to access information on their own.

Namibia is aiming to improve on its top 30 freedom of the media world rankings by Reporters Without Borders.

The Ministry of Information, Communication, and Technology's Executive Director, Dr. Audrin Mathe, said this at a special award ceremony of the International Festival for Freedom of Expression and the Press (FILEP) in the capital of Burkina Faso, where Namibia was crowned Champion of Press Freedom in Africa.

Namibia had been occupying the top spot consistently over the years and until 2021 before being toppled by the Seychelles last year.

The Deputy Minister of Information, Communication, and Technology, Emma Theofilus, has urged Namibians to prioritise social cohesion as a crucial goal.

Theofilus made these remarks during the official opening of the 7th edition of the annual Oranjemund Diamond Festival and Career Fair.

The annual Diamond Festival is a platform for businesses to showcase their services and products and, at the same time, engage investors.

This year's festival is being held under the theme 'Creating a sustainable future through economic diversification'. 

The Information and Communication Rights in Africa conference is currently underway in Windhoek, Namibia.

The regional conference seeks to contribute to ongoing efforts towards combating the major challenges affecting digital rights, access to information, freedom of expression, and media in Africa.

It will also touch on human rights and the digital transformation of media.

The conference will also deepen comprehensive access to information, promote digital rights and inclusion, and promote the public information commons.

Radio could serve as a tool to create tension and animosity among citizens.

Therefore, there is a need for all radio personalities and the public to use the tool as a medium of communication wisely.

Deputy Minister of Information and Communication Technology Emma Theofelus made the call during the celebration of World Radio Day.
