Otjozondjupa Regional Governor James Uerikua has announced preparations for the hosting of the memorial services of the late Founding President Sam Nujoma next week are in full swing.
The Regional Memorial Service in Grootfontein will provide an opportunity for the residents of Otjozondjupa and surrounding regions (which include parts of Oshikoto and Omaheke regions) to pay their final respects and honour his remarkable contributions to the nation.
The memorial service will be held at the Omulunga Stadium at 14h00 on Monday, 24 February.
The procession carrying the remains is scheduled to leave the Grootfontein Airport at noon en route to Omulunga Sports Ground.
The procession will start from the Lt. Gen. Dino Hamambo Garrison to the Traffic Circle, where it will enter the Kavango Road in the CBD of town to the Four Way Traffic Junction, turning left into Sam Nujoma Road.
It will then turn off on the right at the T-junction at the traffic lights and continue on Sam Nujoma Road to Omulunga township, where it will turn off at Engelhardt Gariseb Street, up until the corner of Makalani Primary School.
The Namibian Defence Force (NDF) will take over from the corner of Engelhardt Gariseband Wilfried Eigoweb streets, and escort the late Founding President’s body along Wilfried Eigoweb Street into the Omulunga Sports ground.
The official memorial service will start at 14:00.
The remains of the Founding President will lie in state at the stadium after the memorial service where the public will still have an opportunity to view the body until 06h00 on Tuesday morning.
Uerikua added Speaker of Parliament, Prof Peter Katjavivi is the assigned chief mourner, to represent President Nangolo Mbumba
