As a legal dispute comes to an end, there is clarity on the suspension of three Swapo Party councillors in the ||Kharas Region.

The parties involved in the ongoing litigation have reached a settlement, paving the way for the reinstatement of the suspended councillors, Lazarus Nangolo, Taimi Amakali, and Suzan Ndjaleka, as per the court order.

Lawyer Sisa Namandje represented the three suspended councillors, while Dr. Weder, Kauta & Hoveka Legal Practitioners stood for ||Kharas Regional Council, councillors Joseph Isaack, Anseline Beukes, Jeremias Goeieman, and Willem Labuschagne, the council's acting CRO Ralph Sachika, and the Landless People's Movement.

The parties agreed that the respondents will henceforth comply with the interim court order issued in September last year for the reinstatement of the suspended councillors and provide them with outstanding remunerations backdated from July last year.

The reinstatement should be communicated in writing to the suspended councillor before the end of Friday.

The parties could not reach a settlement on legal costs, leaving the determination of these costs to the court.

The litigation stems from an urgent application filed by the three councillors, challenging the council's decision on 25 January 2024 to relieve them without remuneration from council duties.

The council cited the councillors' alleged absconding from three consecutive meetings and refusal to accept management council positions as reasons for their suspension.
