Exhibitors at OMDis expo thank organisers


Exhibitors participating at the annual Oranjemund Town Transformation Agency (OMDis) Expo thanked the organisers for providing them with the opportunity to showcase some of their products and services to the community of Oranjemund in the ||Kharas Region.

OMDis was established in 2019 to foster the town's economic resilience, transcending its historic reliance on mining activities.

President Mbumba urges stability in Luderitz amidst anticipated economic growth


As the town of Luderitz is anticipating growth in economic activity, President Nangolo Mbumba called for stability to prevail as one of the enabling factors.

Dr. Mbumba was on a working visit to Luderitz in the ||Kharas Region.

The envisaged green hydrogen and ammonia productions are expected to start, and different industry stakeholders are preparing themselves for an influx to Luderitz.

President Mbumba meets traditional leaders in ||Kharas


President Nangolo Mbumba says the government is concerned over chieftaincy succession disputes, causing leadership vacuums within traditional authorities. 

The Head of State made the remark while addressing traditional leaders at Keetmanshoop. 

As part of his four-day visit to the ||Kharas Region, President Mbumba met with the traditional leaders to introduce himself as head of state and hear their concerns. 

Swapo Party Member urges campaign for majority in November elections


Swapo Party Politburo and Central Committee member, Lucia Witbooi, has urged party members to campaign for an outright majority in the November national elections. 

She made the call at the opening of the ||Kharas Swapo Party regional executive meeting in Keetmanshoop.

Witbooi further encouraged all eligible voters to re-register to participate in the upcoming elections.

||Kharas Region unites in tribute to late President Hage Geingob


People from all walks of life in ||Kharas Region united on Wednesday in remembrance of the late President Hage Geingob. 

They shared their most cherished memories of the late President Geingob at a memorial service held at Keetmanshoop. 

Delivering tribute to the late Dr. Geingob, speaker after speaker remembered the departed statesman as a national unifier and visionary leader. 

Governor Aletha Frederick recounted her encounters with Dr. Geingob during her debut in political office. 

Keetmanshoop AME church launches NGO to assist under-privileged individual


In a bid to empower underprivileged residents of Keetmanshoop to become self-reliant, the local ZTT AME Church congregation formed an initiative dubbed the EMEME Partnership.

The initiative, registered as a non-profit organisation, was officially launched during a fundraising gala dinner at Keetmanshoop.

Reverend Leslie Leukes, spiritual leader of ZTT AME Church Congregation, says the name EMEME is based on the pillars of education, mission, evangelism, management, and economic empowerment.

29 reed houses destroyed in a fire at Aussenkehr 


About 29 reed houses have been destroyed in a fire at Aussenkehr settlement in ||Kharas Region this week.

The acting Police Regional Crime Coordinator for ||Kharas, Detective Chief Inspector Jochobetha Angukku, confirmed the fire incident that broke out on Tuesday morning.

She said the cause of the fire is not yet known.

But, according to an eyewitness, the fire started burning from the roof of a reed house that was locked and quickly spread to other makeshift structures.

Blown-off roof leaves family homeless


A family of eight at Keetmanshoop in the ||Kharas Region had a narrow escape after the roof of their house was blown off by heavy winds accompanied by rain on Saturday.

Speaking to nbc News after the incident, Johannes Brandt, the owner of the house, says that although no one was injured, the estimated damage could be in the thousands. He says his entire family is in shock, as no one expected this.

Brandt says that the Keetmanshoop Municipality immediately cut off the electricity supply to the house as much of the electrical wiring was exposed.

||Kharas school principals urged to put in concerted efforts to improve learner performance


The Education Director in ||Kharas Region, Jesmine Magermann, has called on school principals to put in concerted efforts to improve learner performance in the region.

She made the call at the annual principals meeting at Keetmanshoop.

The principals gathering analysed the performance of learners in the region, from Grade 1 to AS level, and came up with interventions to improve on the previous academic year examination results and learner performance.
