The National Council Chairperson, Lukas Muha, is on a visit to ||Kharas Region to sensitise the public about the legislative body's role in governance and democracy.

The National Council's visit is part of the legislative body's outreach programmes, and aims to improve public understanding of its function.

The legislative body has conducted eleven outreach visits in various regions since 2021.

"Yes, people know that there is parliament, but if you unexpectedly go to the regions on the ground and ask the people where parliament is, you are likely to be told by those you're going to visit that parliament is this institution that is very close to heaven. Because they don't even know, they think maybe that parliamentarians are these people that God sent. It will even be worse if you ask them further about what we do at parliament."

The ||Kharas Regional Council Chairperson, Joseph Isaack, welcomed the legislative body's outreach visit.

"We have ARC, but it seems to me ARC is actually playing the role of the NC because NC is actually the statutory body that is there, that comes or upholds the interest of the regions. And by associating ourselves with the regional council's body is wrong. But sometimes we must place priorities, and sometimes we overlook the meaning of NC."

The National Council Chairperson, accompanied by a delegation, including the Secretary to the National Council and other senior staffers, also visited the Keetmanshoop Vocational Training Centre, which is set to open mid-year.

The Keetmanshoop VTC's caretaker, Fillemon Nangolo, said six additional training workshops are expected to be constructed during the second phase of construction.

The ||Kharas Regional Council also expressed appreciation to the government for the establishment of the Keetmanshoop VTC.
