The Governor of the ||Kharas Region, Aletha Frederick, has reiterated her office's commitment to promoting transparency, accountability, and open communication with all the region’s inhabitants.
She expressed these sentiments while responding to a petition recently submitted by a group from the Blouwes community, voicing grievances against the Blouwes Traditional Authority.
The governor stated that she has no interest in traditional or political differences and emphasized that her role, as the region’s political head, obliges her to intervene and help ensure these differences are resolved and a consensus is achieved for the sake of development.
In the petition, the group demanded answers regarding concerns such as alleged misappropriation of funds intended for community development and illegal land allocation in the communal area.
They also called on the Anti-Corruption Commission to launch an investigation into the alleged misappropriation of funds and urged the Ministry of Urban and Rural Development to suspend the monthly allowances of traditional councillors, dissolve the council, and investigate illegal land allocations.
The governor also summoned the Blouwes Traditional Authority to attend a media briefing and provide answers to allegations raised in the petition.
The Blouwes Traditional Authority senior councillor, August Bloodstaan, stated that concerns raised in the petition had been addressed on various occasions; he dismissed the petition as an attempt to discredit the governor.
The representative of the Blouwes Community group, Erich Mathys, was also present at the press conference to listen to and receive the governor’s response to the petition.
