Erongo Governor Neville Andre has described the late Dr. Sam Nujoma as a freedom fighter and a visionary leader who understood the critical importance of economic independence for the prosperity and sovereignty of the Namibian people.

Expressing his condolences over the late leader's death, Andre highlighted the late Dr. Sam Nujoma's monumental contributions to Namibia's independence and socio-economic development.

Andre addressed the business community during a memorial service in honour of the late Founding President, held at Walvis Bay.

One of Dr. Nujoma's most notable contributions, he emphasised, was his pivotal role in ensuring Namibian participation in the fishing sector.

Under Nujoma's leadership, he said, policies were implemented to ensure Namibians gained ownership and control over the country's valuable marine resources.

Andre noted that the fishing industry remains a key pillar of Namibia's economy, providing employment and livelihoods for many.

He thus called for continued efforts to ensure that the benefits of these resources are shared equitably for future generations.

Furthermore, Governor Andre highlighted Dr. Nujoma's emphasis on agriculture as a critical driver of food security and economic empowerment.

He encouraged the youth of Namibia, especially in the Erongo Region, to embrace agriculture as a viable and rewarding career path.
