The Bukalo-Muyako-Ngoma road will soon be constructed to a low-volume standard, improving accessibility for communities in the area.

This project is expected to make travel easier and safer for residents, businesses, and farmers who rely on the road for their daily activities.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Zambezi Governor Alufea Sampofu said delays in the construction of the project were caused by budgetary issues and commended the residents for their patience.

Phase 1 of the project entails a 10-kilometer upgrade from Bukalo to Tololi village via Silumbi and Sikanjabuka.

This will further cover the re-gravelling of access roads to various schools, clinics and other public facilities.

The Minister of Works and Transport, John Mutorwa, explained that the project was initially scheduled to start in November last year and now looks forward to its completion.

Phase 2, which will start in the 2026-2027 financial year, is set to cover 50 kilometers and will continue from Tololi Village to Ngoma through Muyako, Ibbu, Mutikitila and Ioma.

A 15-kilometer road construction between Sizimbukwa and Sikanjabuka is also included in the second phase.

The entire project is expected to be completed by 2028.

The Chief Executive Officer for the Roads Authority, Conrad Lutombi, assured residents that there would be no delays.

He further cautioned that there will be a need to deviate alignment in some areas, specifically in Silumbi; therefore, affected residents will be compensated in line with the government policy on compensation.
