SADC regional leaders will once again meet for an extraordinary summit to discuss the ongoing security concerns in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The virtual meeting of the SADC Heads of State and Government is slated for the 13th of March, to be chaired by President Emmerson Mnangagwa of Zimbabwe.
The SADC Secretariat, in a statement, announced that the virtual summit will receive updates on the latest security situation in the DRC and further deliberate on the recommendation from the extraordinary SADC Organ Troika Summit.
The extraordinary SADC Organ Troika Summit took place on March 6th and discussed the Report of the Defence Sub-Committee on the Review of the SAMIDRC mandate.
It was also held against the backdrop of the region's commitment to support peace and security interventions in DRC, in line with the SADC Mutual Defence Pact.
During the extraordinary summit of SADC Heads of State and Government, held on 31st January this year, the bloc mandated the SADC Organ Troika on Politics, Defence, and Security Cooperation to engage all state and non-state parties to the conflict on the ceasefire process.
