The Chairperson of the Berseba Village Council, Felicia Motinga, has said the swearing in of Namibia's first female President in two days' time demonstrates the political maturity of the people despite their political differences.
Motinga, who made the remarks at the commemoration of International Women's Day, called on women to celebrate their achievements and continue encouraging each other.
The day honours women's successes and contributions towards socio-economic and political development, and it was celebrated under the theme "For All Women and Girls: Rights, Equality and Empowerment".
Motinga reiterated that the empowerment of women is critical, pointing out their contribution to food security, which will help eradicate poverty.
Namibia is currently ranked number eight globally after closing 80% of its gender gap, while the country is ranked number four in Africa.
The ||Kharas Regional Council Chairperson, Josef Isaak delivered the keynote address on behalf of the Minister of Gender Equality, Poverty Eradication and Social Welfare, Doreen Sioka.
