As we celebrate the incoming president, various ministries bid farewell to their ministers.
Outgoing Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr, Kalumbi Shangula, said his goodbyes to his staff, retiring at the age of 76.
Having served the Ministry of Health and Social Services as the minister since 2018, Dr. Shangula has retired. His deputy, Dr. Utjiua Muinjangue, also bid farewell to the ministry as she deputised Shangula since 2020, a year that will always be remembered as the year the country was hard hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Although the Ministry of Health and Social Services has been faced with challenges over the years, both Shangula and Muinjangue have served the ministry with dedication and devotion, making significant strides in the public health sector by introducing new services such as dialysis and adding ICU beds, which were in short supply prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Executive Director of the Ministry of Health and Social Services, Ben Nangombe, said the duo's leadership will always be remembered as they instilled morals in them to serve the ministry wholeheartedly and with utmost respect for the institution.
Dr. Shangula said his heart was filled with joy for the farewell party, as it came as a surprise, leaving his team with a message of encouragement that they must remain like a soccer team.
He expressed the hope that they will remain united and continue to work hard to ensure the continued greatness of the Ministry of Health.
The regional directors and staff honoured the minister by naming the boardroom after Dr. Shangula, as a symbol and tangible gesture of respect and appreciation for the minister's service.
