The Omaheke Region is set to benefit from India's assistance in the areas of agriculture, small and medium enterprises, information technology, and scholarship programmes for youth.

Speaking during his familiarisation visit to the region, India's High Commissioner to Namibia, Rahul Shrivastava, stressed that his country is ready to assist the Omaheke Region in various key areas with human capital and resources needed to advance development.

He said it's high time that both countries make use of their strong, formidable partnership to develop local communities.

"We have discussed some of the things, for example, the scholarship programme for Namibian students, and through the office of the governor, I would like to reach out to the young students in the Omaheke Region for them to access this programme. Similarly, there is a capacity-building programme on IT for the training of the people who work for the government and the private sector that we have also briefed the governor on."

On his part, the regional governor, Pijoo Nganate, welcomed the initiatives and urged the inhabitants to make use of the opportunity to tap into the expertise, singling out specifically agriculture and upcoming entrepreneurs.

"I'm very happy that his excellency is here and that we are not only going to do something in the field of equipment provision but also capacity building so that we can secure sustainability. So I'm very happy that his other half will also assist in reminding him that we have to do something for that region of Omaheke. So, it's a big day for Omaheke since we started with India way back, and now we are here at this point where we say. Let's go back to basics and start with small things and grow."

The group also visited other key projects around Gobabis.
