Best-performing Grade 8 and 11 learners at Windhoek's Highline Secondary School have benefited from scholarships from the Chinese Embassy.
The scholarship was handed over during the school's annual prize-giving ceremony awarded to top achievers.
The annual prize-giving event marks a significant milestone in the careers of learners who have excelled and proven themselves in academic performance.
The top achievers also received amounts ranging from one thousand to three thousand dollars as a token of encouragement.
The school principal, Sacky Nghuulikwa, says that since the generous scholarships from the Chinese Embassy, there has been a remarkable improvement in addressing the school's needs.
"Critical needs ensure access to essential items, such as stationery and other vital learning materials that empower our learners to focus on their studies without the burden of financial constraints. The impact of your government's generosity is deeply felt and profoundly appreciated by our entire school community."
China's Ambassador to Namibia, Zhao Weiping, urged the learners to value education.
"I want to encourage all the learners to follow the good example of our winners, to study harder and excel in your academic performance. I will tell you why this is very important: because I believe that in the Namibian economy, we will witness a significant increase in job opportunities in the next five years. There will be many more opportunities for high-quality jobs, but those opportunities will only be reserved for those who are prepared."
Grade 10 learner Tyson Mbango obtained seven certificates in seven subjects.
"My message to all the learners who are trying to obtain these accolades is that all they should do is study hard. They should not focus on things that do not relate to their schoolwork, stay away from drugs, and remain in school."
