A newborn baby boy survived after being abandoned in the bushes at Bunya village in the Kavango West Region on Tuesday.
According to Kavango West Police spokesperson Chief Inspector Raimbert Muronga, the mother, who is unknown, delivered the baby in the bushes.
The suspect reportedly placed a brick on the baby's head in an attempt to kill him.
Muronga says the baby was found by a cattle herder, who heard the infant crying in the bushes. The herder then alerted the police.
Police are appealing to communities and teachers in Bunya and surrounding villages to help identify the suspect or any woman who was recently pregnant but is now without a baby.
The baby is admitted to Rundu Intermediate Hospital in a stable condition.
Police investigations continue.
