The revival of the Swakopmund House of Safety Project is set to bring much-needed relief to victims of shack fires in the town.
According to Clarence McClune, General Manager of Engineering and Planning Services, the municipality decided to revive the initiative in response to the growing number of shack fires in the area, which have left numerous families homeless and vulnerable.
McClune stated that the facility will serve as a temporary shelter for residents who have lost their homes in fires, providing a safe space until their dwellings are rebuilt.
He emphasised the urgent need for such a facility, given the recurring incidents that leave many families displaced and vulnerable.
