The manager of Ondera Farm in the Oshikoto Region says he is disappointed with the performance of the yield this year.
Jan Haneb says that, despite the good rainfall in the area, the farm is having a hard time. "Last February, our tractor went for repairs, and it is still stuck at the GTI garage in Crootfontain, leaving us unable to work the fields," Haneb explained.
Additionally, two large pipes that bring water from the borehole to the irrigation areas have burst. This has made things even more challenging. "I reported these issues to the Ministry of Gender in Omuthiya, hoping for assistance. However, because of bureaucratic delays, progress has been slow," Haneb said.
The community around Ondera Farm also depends on the cattle raised there. "Currently, we have 170 cattle that could help the community of Ondera. But there is nothing we can do to help our people; everything is on hold because of the ministry," Haneb added.
Haneb emphasised that the farm is not just a business; it is also a source of hope for the community. Without support to fix these problems, both the farm and the local community are in trouble. Haneb hopes to receive a quick response from the authorities so they can get back to work and assist those in need.
Ondera is a government resettlement farm which was purchased by the government and allocated to San communities who, at the time, found themselves residing in corridors of Oshivelo.
