President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has expressed concern regarding the resurgence of cholera in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region.

Last month, Namibia reported a confirmed case of cholera in Opuwo, marking the first occurrence in over a decade.

The President emphasized that this situation highlights the critical need for vigilance and underscored that preventing cholera necessitates a multi-sectoral approach.

In a statement commemorating World Health Day 2025, she reaffirmed that, in alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goal 6, ensuring access to clean water and sanitation remains a national priority.

Additionally, President Nandi-Ndaitwah is worried about malaria, which continues to be a significant health challenge in the ten endemic regions.

These regions include the four O regions, the two Kavango regions, as well as Kunene, Zambezi, Omaheke, and Otjozondjupa.

The President urged citizens to adopt preventive measures and collaborate with health workers to eradicate malaria. 

She assured that the government would persist in implementing effective interventions, such as indoor residual spraying and distributing long-lasting insecticide-treated nets.

 Furthermore, the launch of the "Zero Malaria Starts With Me" campaign, a pan-African initiative, aims to empower communities to take ownership of the fight against this disease.
