Despite Namibia's rich sporting heritage, medallist and professionals, who appeared on Sport Uncovered Show, revealed the stark realities of inadequate support during their 2024 Paris Olympics preparations, highlighting a gap between the nation's potential and its athletes' experiences.

In a recent episode of Sports Uncovered, aired on NBC 1 every Tuesday at 19:00, the program examined the factors contributing to the limited number of Namibian athletes qualifying for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France, despite the nation's reputation for passionate sportsmanship.

Despite Namibia's past Olympic successes, including achieving five gold medals, only four athletes represented the country in Paris, navigating challenging conditions.

Each athlete achieved personal milestones, but their performances were overshadowed by the national disappointment of insufficient support as they faced international challenges.

Vera Looser, the 2023 Namibian Sports Awards' Sport Star of the Year, finished in an impressive 68th place out of 92 competitors at the Olympic cycling event, and spoke about her experience and the difficulties she faced during the race in Paris.

Helalia Johannes, competing in her fifth and final Olympics at 43, placed 58th in the women's marathon, and highlighted her unique challenges of representing Namibia on the world stage, inspiring many young athletes across the country.

Philip Seidler, a 23-year-old marathon swimmer, had to withdraw from the men's 10km open water race, cutting short his Olympic campaign due to a shoulder injury, and shared his feelings about the challenges he faced during preparations for the 2024 Olympics.

The Namibia Sport Commission, entrusted with promoting and advancing sport all over the country, and which played a critical role in providing Namibian athletes with the opportunities to participate in both national and international competitions, was instrumental in providing athletes towards the Paris 2024 Olympics.

The Commission's Chief Administrator Freddy Mwiya emphasized the difficulties the Commission faced, such as delays in securing resources and coordinating international training, which impacted athletes' ability to perform at their best.

These stories of perseverance and determination are the foundation of Namibian sport, and athletes like these inspire the next generation to pursue their dreams against all odds.
