Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry, Mines, and Energy, Natangwe Ithete, has underscored the critical need for Namibians to fully benefit from the country’s abundant natural resources, particularly in regions like Erongo, which is rich in natural deposits.
During his visit to the Swapo Party office in the Erongo Region, Ithete highlighted the significant issue of youth unemployment, which remains a challenge in the region. He highlighted that young people should be more involved in the economic opportunities arising from exploiting these resources.
He said lawmakers are reviewing policies to ensure Namibia gets more from its resources than just mining donations. He emphasised that the government is committed to ensuring that the benefits of natural resources reach the broader population, especially the younger generation, to foster long-term economic growth and development in the region.
The region's Governor, Neville Andre, said Ithete's visit to the region came at a time when the government is focused on addressing employment challenges and creating sustainable opportunities for the youth, particularly in sectors related to mining and energy.
