A 95-year-old man, Kilus Hishongwa, from Onekwaya West in the Endola Constituency of the Ohangwena Region, was allegedly murdered this morning by his 35-year-old grandson, who lived with him.
Reports indicate that the suspect shot his 25-year-old cousin with an arrow, narrowly allowing the cousin to escape death. The cousin ran to his grandfather for safety, as both were reportedly targeted by the suspect, who is believed to have been under the influence of drugs.
Due to his advanced age, the grandfather was quickly caught by the suspect as he attempted to leave the house. The suspect decapitated him with a panga, disfiguring his face before he succumbed to his injuries.
Following the attack, the suspect ran to the Onekwaya West clinic, where his cousin was seeking medical attention. For safety reasons, the nurses locked everyone inside the clinic. The suspect then broke all the clinic's windows and, after failing to gain entry, returned home and sat by the fireplace, telling onlookers that he had killed his grandfather.
After a prolonged standoff with the police, he was finally apprehended.
Police investigations are ongoing.
