The Executive Director of the National Planning Commission, I-Ben Nashandi, says for too long, capital projects have faced delays due to a gap in management capacity.
It is for this reason that the National Planning Commission, through its Project Management Capacity Building Programme – Phase 1, provided training to and awarded 97 public civil servants in project management.
Project management is crucial in driving economic and social growth by ensuring efficient resource allocation, timely project completion and improved quality outcomes for any country.
Nashandi noted that the gap in project management has resulted in delays due to overrunning budgets and sometimes opportunities missed in these projects.
This has in return impacted negatively on service delivery, community development and the lives of the citizens.
His speech was read by the National Development Advisor in NPC Manongwa Sikando.
The Director at Mondjila Project Advisory and Management, Panashe Daringo, revealed that Namibia strives to develop and implement about 900 projects by 2030, and it's up to the participants to ensure that all these projects become a reality.
The trainees were equipped with practical skills to plan effectively, manage official plans and deliver impactful project management results.
According to statistics revealed at the occasion, over 50% of projects in Africa fail, making Africa the continent with the highest project failure rate.
