Members of the Swapo Party in the Grootfontein district are demanding the nullification of branch elections that began on April 16.
Seventeen branches have reported unfair practices allegedly orchestrated by an eight-member special task team assigned by party headquarters.
At a press conference held this afternoon in town, District Information and Mobilization Officer Susan Schwarz claimed that the task team violated rules by allowing unidentified members from outside the area and nearby farms to register, nominate, and vote for new section leaders and delegates to the district's extraordinary conference.
These elections are crucial for renewing mandates, which will enable members to hold an extraordinary conference to elect a candidate for the upcoming Grootfontein constituency by-election.
Members are now calling for intervention from the assigned leaders and party executives.
Otjozondjupa Regional Party Coordinator Imms Namaseb confirmed that complaints have been filed against the task team regarding their conduct in both Grootfontein and Otjiwarongo.
His office will provide further details on the actions to be taken and the way forward on Monday.
