The Speaker of the National Assembly, Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila, has urged parliamentary staff to focus on delivering results that make a real difference in people’s lives.

Speaking during her maiden address to staff members, Kuugongelwa-Amadhila said performance should not be judged by the amount of time or effort spent, but by the outcomes achieved.

She emphasised the need to identify and address internal challenges in order to better support parliamentary committees. She said time is of the essence and called for a shift away from bureaucracy toward a more efficient, results-oriented approach.

According to the Speaker, those who succeed are not necessarily those who work the hardest, but those who work smart and maintain a clear focus on impact.

She also touched on broader national and continental issues, pointing to poverty in Namibia and across Africa despite the continent’s vast natural wealth. She said transformation is needed to build a society where citizens can thrive and no longer feel the need to seek better opportunities abroad.

Kuugongelwa-Amadhila reminded staff that one does not have to be in a senior position to contribute meaningfully to national development. She called for clearly defined institutional needs to help guide decisions on resourcing the National Assembly effectively.

She further urged staff to communicate any challenges they face in a timely manner to help ensure smooth operations.

Lastly, she stressed the importance of prioritising digitalisation, noting that the National Assembly plays a central role in Namibia’s governance and must keep pace with technological advancement.
