The Okahandja Town Council has donated burial plots for Roslind Fabian (6) and Beyoncé !Kharuxas (15), Mayor Beatrice Kotungondo has said.

Fabian will be buried this weekend, while the burial of !Kharuxas is scheduled for next weekend.

Kotungondo said that in response to rising crime in the area, the municipality has also begun installing CCTV cameras on street lights across Okahandja. 

The surveillance system is directly linked to the Okahandja Police Station and will operate 24 hours a day, said the mayor.

Installation has been completed in Osona Village and the Five Rand settlement. The remaining areas, including Veddersdal, Nau-Aib, and the town centre, are scheduled for completion by Saturday. 

CCTV systems are also being installed and monitored at all schools.

Kotungondo explained that the initiative is being carried out in partnership with the local business community following a directive from the mayor’s office.
