Five people have died following a head-on collision between two vehicles on the road between Karibib and Okahandja today.

According to police spokesperson Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi, three of the deceased were occupants of a double-cab bakkie that caught fire upon impact and burnt beyond recognition.

A fourth victim, a passenger in a white sedan, died at the scene.

Shikwambi said a baby, who was also in the sedan, later died in hospital, bringing the death toll to five.

The driver and two other passengers from the sedan were injured and are receiving treatment at Usakos Hospital.

The identities of the deceased have not yet been confirmed. Investigations into the crash are ongoing.
