Inspector General of the Namibian Police, Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo, continued his nationwide crime prevention campaign this weekend with an engagement in the Oshikango community of the Ohangwena Region.
In his address to residents, Lieutenant General Shikongo urged community members to actively participate in reducing crime in their areas, emphasizing that crime undermines the peace, security, and development of the country.
He also issued a stern warning to law enforcement personnel, urging them to avoid criminal activities and to set a positive example.
The gathering included remarks from Ohangwena Governor Sebastian Ndeitunga, Helao Nafidi Mayor Darius Shaalukeni, and George Ngololo, the headman of Onamhinda village.
They condemned the rising incidents of crimes such as the abuse of women and children, baby dumping, cellphone theft, knife attacks, and house break-ins.
Both leaders emphasized the necessity of collective action to eradicate crime for the benefit of all.
Concerns were raised regarding some Angolan nationals in Namibia who are allegedly engaging in criminal activities and displaying disrespect towards law enforcement, including instances of stone throwing.
The community leaders stressed that such behaviors will not be tolerated and called on all foreign nationals to respect Namibia’s laws and contribute to maintaining peace and stability.
They concluded by stating that strong bilateral ties between Namibia and Angola rely on mutual respect and lawful conduct.
