Protesters demand justice for Okahandja police shooting victims

Protesters marched to Agostinho Neto Square on Saturday to demand justice for the killing of five men who died at the hands of police officers in Okahandja in April last year.

The protest was spearheaded by activist and Namibia Economic Freedom Fighters (NEFF) member Michael Amushelelo.

The plan for this march was to bring across a message of grief and unhappiness.

Gathered were the youth, family, and friends of Erikki 'Akawa' Martin, Abed Andreas, Marius Ipinge, Malaika Kotokeni, and Flavianus Endjala.

No security threats since swearing-in of President Mbumba: Shikongo

The Inspector General (IG) of the Namibian Police Force, Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo has said there have not been any security threats since the swearing-in of former Vice President Nangolo Mbumba as President of Namibia.

Mbumba was sworn in as the fourth President of Namibia, following the death of President Hage Geingob early on Sunday. International Relations Minister Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah was sworn in as Vice President.

Namibian Police promote over 4 000 officers

The Namibian Police have promoted over 4,000 officers, its first ever mass promotion of this scale.

The Inspector General of NamPol, Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo, says, "All promoted officers are expected to continue working hard, maintain a high level of discipline, and improve service delivery. You should not relax and feel that you have now become bosses! What you should always remember is that you are police officers, and your duty is to serve and protect the people."

Criminal activities at Berseba on rise

The Police Inspector General, Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo, has appealed to the community of Berseba Village in the ||Kharas Region to join hands with the police in fighting crime. 

Speaking at the Berseba Boer Goat Expo, NamPol's top cop revealed that crime has shown a steady increase in the village over the years. 

In 2020, a total of 42 crimes were recorded in the village, while forty-five crimes have already been reported since the start of 2023.

NamPol top brass attend ethical leadership workshop

In its quest to bring positive change to the institution, the Namibian Police top brass are being trained in ethical leadership at a week-long workshop at Otjiwarongo.

Opening the workshop, Police Inspector General, Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo, says the course aims to equip the leadership with knowledge, skills, and a mindset of becoming exemplary leaders.

NamPol commends government for addressing lack of manpower

NamPol Inspector General, Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo, has commended the government for addressing a lack of manpower in the police force.

He remarked this when he officially opened the police basic training course at the Ruben Danger Ashipala Police Training Centre in Ondangwa.

The police's basic training is being attended by 841 cadet constables. Of these, 572 are male and 279 are female.

They were recruited from all 14 of the country's regions.

NamPol encourages individuals to join community police units

The Police Inspector-General, Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo, and the Minister of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety, and Security, Dr. Albert Kawana, have encouraged more individuals to join the community police units in their respective regions.


Speaking during a community meeting in Zambezi, Lieutenant General Shikongo applauded the region's high number of volunteers who are actively engaged in the community police programme.

Police officers warned to use lack of resources as an excuse to not assist public

The Inspector General of the Namibian Police Force, Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo, has warned police officers not to use a lack of resources as an excuse to not respond to public calls when reporting crime.

Lieutenant General Shikongo says members of law enforcement should make use of state resources to deliver on their mandate.

The police Chief stated that they are, however, working hard to mobilise resources to address the shortage, especially that of vehicles.

Applications for NamPol have commenced

Inspector General of the Namibian Police, Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo has officially announced the commencement of the application process for the Namibian Police.

New intakes will be cadet constables and are required to be in possession of a Grade 11 (new curriculum) school leaving certificate with 25 points or higher.

Applicants must be between the ages of 18 to 35 years, must not have a criminal record, must be physically healthy, and female candidates must be willing to undergo a pregnancy test.

NEEF unemployment protest denied

The Police Chief, Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo, has denied a request by the Namibia Economic Freedom Fighters (NEFF) to stage a nationwide protest against high unemployment in the country on Independence Day tomorrow.

NEFF Commissar Michael Amushelelo says the aim of the protest is to put pressure on lawmakers to act with urgency and address the growing number of unemployed people in the country.
