The recent influx of water in key catchment areas and floodplains has brought large quantities of fish, making it an ideal opportunity for Northerners to capitalise.

Many of the unemployed have been spending their time by the floodplains, catching fish.

Those who spoke to nbc News say they are happy that they have not been prevented by the government from catching fish.

Some of the women who set up camps on the roadside for almost a month live far away, and this is where money exchanges hands.

With most of the floodplains still full of water, the women are hoping to earn more money before they dry up.
