Omatako Constituency Councillor Israel Hukura has been sworn in as a member of the National Council this morning.
He will represent the Omatako Constituency of the Otjozondjupa Region.
Hukura filled the seat in the National Council after Swapo Party MP Elder Felipe was elevated to the National Assembly.
"The quicker I learn, the better. I also would like to take this back home when my term comes to an end, which is obviously this coming November. I am going to contribute positively to the house and make sure that voiceless people are represented. I also want to make sure that whatever is expected from me as an MP, I will bring in my part."
Hukura pointed out areas needing support, such as agriculture and the inclusion of young people and women in development.
The new MP said he will ensure that both young people and women are well represented in the National Council, starting from the local level and building up.
He also highlighted that leaders should speak in a way that matches the real situation on the ground.
