The Omhedi Palace of the Oukwanyama Traditional Authority is bustling with activity as they prepare to welcome over 20,000 guests for this year's annual Omagongo Festival.
The annual festival is celebrated across the eight Aawambo traditional authorities.
Among the expected guests are President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, heads of traditional authorities, Cabinet ministers and people from all walks of life.
Organisers are making final touches ahead of the event, which kicks off tomorrow.
The name of the festival Omagongo is derived from a fermented juice extracted from the Marula fruits.
The event not only celebrates the Marula beverage, but it is also from the Marula tree where oil is also extracted.
Chairman of the Oukwanyama Traditional Authority, Elias Waandja, said, "This is a festival celebrating our ancient drink of Omagongo. It's a traditional event that is aimed at reviving our ancient cultural norms and values. Let's respect the day by showing up in our cultural attires and not in Western clothing. Preparations are in full swing; there is too much food and meat. We are ready to host our visitors, and the free flow of Omagongo will be the order of the day."
The event also showcases various traditional performances, and Ohangwena Governor Sebastian Ndeitunga has called on Namibians to participate.
"We request everyone to come in a joyous mood without any type of weapon; this is a peaceful time in our culture. Omagongo time is for people to rejoice in a joyous and festive mood; nobody should come with any type of weapon. We look forward to seeing everyone, and meekulu Mwadinhomho is waiting for you."
