President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has encouraged African countries to rally behind the Museum of African Liberation and own the narrative of the continent.

The collaborative project between the government of Zimbabwe and the Pan-African organisation, the Institute of African Knowledge (INSTAK), aims to preserve the history and legacy of the continent’s freedom fighters and liberation movements.

President Nandi-Ndaitwah and delegation toured the site of the project, still under construction in Zimbabwe’s capital, Harare, while on a working visit on Tuesday.

She hailed the idea behind the project as commendable and representative, as it is time for Africa to tell its own stories.

“I am sure it is motivating African researchers to understand more where we are coming from so that they will have a clear path as to where we want to go. I want to congratulate President Mnangagwa, the government and people of Zimbabwe and the professor who is leading the whole project, so I am encouraging everybody who is involved to take this as an African project," stated Nandi-Ndaitwah.

President Nandi-Ndaitwah said that her predecessors had already expressed support for the project.

While the liberation museum is expected to be the main attraction, other constructions include various national monuments, including a heritage village as well as recreational and amusement facilities.
