As the three-month extension of the contracts for the seven regional governors of Oshana, Omusati, Ohangwena, Zambezi, Omaheke, Erongo, and ǁKharas regions comes to an end today, it is a wait-and-see moment to determine who will be sent home, who will retain their positions, and which new faces might join the 8th administration.
Other positions likely to be up for grabs include four special advisor roles to the President: Constitutional Advisor, Private Interface, Press Secretary, Economic Advisor, and Youth and Enterprise Development Advisor.
Some of those whose jobs hang in the balance, who spoke to NBC News on condition of anonymity, say they remain in the dark with less than 24 hours left on their contracts but remain hopeful of making a comeback and continuing to lead for the next five years.
Press Secretary Alfredo Hengari could not immediately say when the President will make the announcements, noting that the public will be informed should there be any new developments.
The positions of regional governors are key to the President's leadership, as they act as the political eyes and ears of the President in the regions, serving as a crucial link between the government, regional councils, local authorities, and traditional authorities.
Special advisors, on the other hand, support the head of state with expert advice and guidance on key governance areas, among others. These positions were introduced during the tenure of the late President Hage Geingob.
