Over 170 houses were electrified at the Twalitumeli Compound, under the Shack Dwellers Federation in the Zambezi Region's Kongola Constituency.
The beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the vital service.
Induna George Muatuli also witnessed the occasion.
"Now you are going to start buying electricity; do not fail to buy it. Use it in your homes. There are some people who will try to discourage you; build your town."
In a speech read on his behalf, the Councillor for Kongola Constituency, Bennety Busihu, urged residents to stand against vandalism.
"Let's start this investment and development against the vandalism of copper wires; let's all of us be policemen and women so we can sustain and make sure we move forward with this big project."
Vionah Bafumisi, the Chairperson of the Kongola Shack Dwellers Federation, acknowledged the ongoing challenges they face.
"The land is not enough, as we have in total 350 registered members without plots who are currently on the side, as you see. We don't have water at our site, and also the sewer is a big challenge, as we have a big number on the side. We appeal to the councillor, the national council, and the indunas to assist us with the matter as soon as possible."
