The Katima Mulilo Town Council has officially been handed back to its elected leadership after several months under ministerial administration.

Despite being banned, the United Democratic Party (UDP) has repeated a call for the Zambezi Region to secede from Namibia. 

UDP members marched to the Zambezi governor's office on Wednesday to submit a petition, stating the demand for secession. 

Residents of the Zambezi region are calling on the government to take action against the United Democratic Party (UDP), a party that was banned in 2007 for its secessionist stance. 

The residents alongside the 4 traditional authorities in the region took to the streets of Katima Mulilo today.

4 of the 7 inmates awaiting trial, who escaped from the Ngoma Police Station, appeared in the Katima Mulilo Magistrates' Court on Thursday.

The 5th escapee was re-arrested on Thursday morning.

Still speaking at Katima Mulilo, Gender Equality and Child Welfare (MGECW) Minister Emma Kantema said that although technology is a powerful tool for empowerment, it has become a new frontier for violence that manifests in various forms.
