Unemployment in the |Khomas Region currently stands at 44%, and this has resulted in the regional council intensifying efforts to create jobs and improve livelihoods through targeted investments in entrepreneurship, rural development, and housing initiatives.

As part of its continuous Income Generating Activities Programme, the Khomas Regional Council supported over 100 SMEs with equipment and materials to help boost their businesses.

"The Regional Council has continued with its Income Generating Activities Programme, under which Small and Medium Enterprises are assisted with equipment and materials. A total of N$2.5 million was spent to finance 144 SME projects ranging from catering businesses, fashion and design, laundry services, arts, crafts and graphics, welding, etc.," said Governor Samuel Nujoma."

The regional council has also made major strides in rural development, channelling significant resources into various support programmes aimed at job creation, food security, and entrepreneurship in rural communities.

"The Regional Council has also supported rural development programmes, which are aimed at creating employment, reducing food insecurity, promoting entrepreneurship development in rural areas, and contributing to the country's economy and poverty reduction. A combined amount of N$312 million was spent on the above-mentioned Rural Development Programmes. The projects include three projects under the Micro Finance Scheme, ten projects under the Food Security programme, and eight rural farmers supplied with a combined total of 120 goats."

Acknowledging the urgent demand to address housing needs, the Council, together with the government and its partners, built low-cost houses through the Informal Settlement Upgrading Pilot Project.
